| The European Citizens Climate Cup (ECCC) is a competition between Maltese households with the aim to demonstrate that everybody can save energy significantly and even beat the reduction targets of the European Union and its Member States.
The competition starts on 13 April 2011 and runs for a whole year until April 2012. The ECCC in Malta will be issuing tips, practical solutions and information to help you reduce the amount of energy consumed by your household through a personalised online ‘Energy Saving Account' (ESA). The households input at least four energy bills or meter readings into the ESA and it collects all energy consumption and cost data and evaluates it. The ESA visualises and displays this information and shows trends of past and future consumption, costs and emissions. Householders are also encouraged to identify energy saving measures already implemented such as solar water heaters or energy saving light bulbs. Thus, ESA helps to involve a large number of Maltese householders in a conservation dialogue, which we can all join.
In the competition the Maltese households who save the most energy with the highest CO2 reduction and the most convincing energy saving measures on a national level will receive prizes worth €2,000. The Maltese finalists will also compete against householders from other European countries for a European Cup.
